School Counselor - Start date August 22, 2024PositionUnder the general supervision of the Principal, school counselors provide services to students aimed at promoting the highest level of student achievement through growth in the domains of academic, social/emotional and career development.Essential Performance Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with other district school counselors for the purpose of developing, reviewing, assessing and maintaining the developmental Comprehensive School Counseling Program.
  • Provides individual and small group counseling for the purpose of meeting and supporting individual student needs.
  • Coordinates and delivers a developmental, preventative, and responsive core curriculum to support academic, social/emotional and career development for all students.
  • Develops and provides activities and programs for college and career awareness, exploration and preparation for students and their families.
  • Identifies and develops activities and programs for the purpose of meeting the needs of the students.
  • Collects, interprets and analyzes student related data and uses data for program development, individual student planning and career development.
  • Implements developmentally appropriate prevention programs and activities to meet students’ needs and to support school and district goals.
  • Provides information, resources, referrals and consultation to teachers, families and community agencies and organizations.
  • Collaborates with other educators, administrators, family members and community agencies to assist students with educational planning to ensure students’ academic success.
  • Develops, coordinates and implements programs and activities to enhance students’ successful transition from school to school and/or other related programs.
  • Provides information, feedback and recommendations to staff, parents, and/or students for classroom placement, course selection and/or the meeting of graduation requirements.
  • Participates in school and district committees and initiatives to provide system support.
  • Coordinates all counseling services for students and assists with the coordination and implementation of student services in the school.
  • Uses the majority of time providing direct services through the School Counseling Curriculum, Individual Student Planning and Preventative and Responsive Services and most remaining time in program management, system support, and accountability.
  • Implements an effective referral and follow-up process as needed.
  • Adheres to laws, policies, procedures to and ethical standards of the school counseling profession.
Additional DutiesPerforms other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work
Qualifications Profile
  • NH State Certification as a School Counselor (#0040).
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
Education
  • Masters Degree
ExperienceSuccessful prior counseling experience, preferrably at the middle school level.
